Our Story
Born from the challenge of transforming an impossibly complex space, Churasuko reimagines what’s possible by fusing Japanese precision with the bold spectacle of Brazilian churrasco.

Derek Liu, hospitality innovator and concept architect, is the creator of Churasuko, America’s first Japanese Fusion Brazilian Steakhouse. Faced with the complexity of the venue’s previous restaurant layout, Derek designed Churasuko as the only concept capable of fully activating the space. He led the vision from the ground up—overseeing the design, guest flow, and operational framework—while personally shaping the menu concept that seamlessly blends high-end sushi with premium Wagyu churrasco. Churasuko reflects Derek’s signature approach: bold ideas, engineered precision, and concepts built to thrive at scale.
Edward Wong, mentor to Derek Liu and President of IVEA Group, was instrumental in bringing Churasuko to life by securing the lease for the restaurant’s highly complex venue. As a part owner of Congressional Village Shopping Center and the leader of 50+ restaurant locations across the DMV, Edward brings a rare combination of real estate insight and hospitality expertise. His strategic vision, negotiation acumen, and mentorship have been central to transforming challenging properties into thriving destinations.

Danny Nguyen was a critical force behind Churasuko’s execution, serving as its Founding Development Partner and working side by side with Derek to turn vision into reality. A breakdancing legend and local celebrity who has his own Netflix series, he brought relentless discipline and grit to the process, putting his heart and soul into the project from start to finish. His hands-on leadership and commitment were instrumental in successfully bringing Churasuko to life.
